David was born in East London and began drawing at a very early age. In his teens he discovered watercolour and has been painting with this medium ever since.

After leaving school at 18, he began working as an illustrator, mainly of natural history subjects, which he continued to do for over twenty years.

Around the time of the Millennium, he rediscovered his interest in painting with watercolours in a looser, more painterly style as opposed to his more detailed illustration work. Inspired by artists like Edward Wesson, James Fletcher Watson and Trevor Chamberlain, to name a few, he chose to concentrate on this genre of painting.

Since then, he has focused mainly on pure watercolour, painting mostly landscapes and seascapes along with the occasional still life and animal subjects. He tutors courses at several venues in the UK, and also demonstrates and teaches watercolour painting at one-day workshops for art clubs around the UK.

David has worked on a number of art books and has contributed many articles to Leisure Painter magazine.

He has also exhibited with the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours at the Mall Galleries.
