A series of one-day workshops. Each studio-based workshop concentrates on a specific theme or topic. Workshops are limited to 12 students.

Bring your own painting materials and packed lunch.
The workshops will be held at 'The Hut', St Paul's Church, Paignton. Parking is available.
If you would like to book a place on one or more workshops, please get in touch via the CONTACT page. A deposit of £10 will secure you a place on a workshop. The balance will be due two weeks before the date of the workshop.
MAY
WED 1 – WATERCOLOUR PAINTING FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS
This workshop really is for those who have always wanted to try watercolour painting but who have been put off by its reputation for being difficult. I’ll show you all the techniques you need to get started.
SAT 11 – PAINTING BOATS IN WATERCOLOUR
An opportunity to paint boats and water, with advice on drawing boat shapes, painting reflections, and simplifying confusing background details.
JUNE
WED 5 – COASTAL SCENERY
Here in the bay, we have so many great coastal views. I’ll show you how to create atmospheric paintings, full of light and depth.
SAT 29 – SIMPLIFYING BUILDINGS IN WATERCOLOUR
Learn how to create loose, and yet convincing, impressionistic watercolour paintings of street and town scenes.
JULY
WED 10 – WATERCOLOUR LANDSCAPE
Painting the landscape in watercolour. I’ll show you the process, from start to finish including ideas on composition such as what to leave in, what to leave out and what to simplify. Also how to use tonal studies to make the process easier.

AUGUST
WED 7 – TREES IN THE LANDSCAPE
Trees are fascinating subjects for paintings, whether standing alone or in a forest. I’ll show you how to simplify the painting of foliage and also how to mix a variety of greens.
SAT 24 – PAINTING SKIES IN WATERCOLOUR
Always a popular subject for painters, and watercolour is the ideal medium for painting the sky in all its moods.
SEPTEMBER
WED 4 – WATERCOLOUR PAINTING AND SIMPLIFYING THE PROCESS
Watercolour painting is a lot easier if you have a plan. In this workshop I’ll show you how to break down the process of creating a painting into simple, more manageable stages.
SAT 28 – TOWNSCAPE IN WATERCOLOUR
Streets and towns make good subjects for watercolour paintings. They may seem daunting at first as there may be so much detail in the scene that it puts us off. This is why we have to simplify what we see into more manageable shapes and tonal values.
OCTOBER
WED 9 – ROCKY COASTLINE
Rocks, cliffs and water make a great subject for watercolour paintings. Learn how to create light-filled, atmospheric paintings of our rocky coastline.

SAT 23 – CREATING DEPTH IN YOUR WATERCOLOUR PAINTINGS
Do your paintings appear flat and lacking depth? It’s probably down to your use of tonal values. In this workshop I’ll show you how to give your paintings more impact with the use of light, medium and dark washes. We’ll also cover the topic of negative painting.
